This is the Day the Lord Hath Made

from Unsplash

The day started out rainy and stormy, cool and dreary.  A little later, the sun peeked through the clouds, and now hours later, it's sunny and mild.

Today is a beautiful day, whether rainy or sunny.  Why?  This is the day the Lord has made.  It's up to us how we use it.

It has been raining a lot here, just this last weekend alone we picked up 5 inches.  Our yard is growing quite well to the point we will need to buy goats if we don't mow it soon.  Maybe we can lease out the yard to a small herd of cows!   It won't be long before the mowing season will be over for this year, and I believe our kids will be glad.  They do the mowing more now that they are in their mid to upper teens.

Yesterday our oldest, my stepson, turned 18.  It is in a way a relief...he survived and we did too.  He made it to "adulthood".  While he has special needs, he is his own guardian now.  He works a small job with vocational rehab, is still in school, and still of course living at home.

This weekend our town has it's annual Fall Festival.  This is a time we use for outreach in our church, as there are a lot of people in town for the activities.  Keep in mind our town is only around 2000 people plus the outlying farms/rural areas.  It is a great time to share the love of Jesus, the Gospel according to the Bible, and get out in the cool autumn air.  I get to watch the parade from my living room window as a good portion of it goes by our house.  I am hoping middle child (with autism) will be interested in going out to the car show and so on, to get out of the house and soak up the crisp fall air.

What do you do to ring in the fall season?

I love the bright colors that are out right now in the mums and marigolds.  The trees changing colors and dropping leaves and the cooler air are my absolute favorite parts.  Well, behind the skeeters dying off.  It is nice when we don't have to bathe in bug spray in order to walk outside.

I hope you have a great day!  I'm back to the sewing machine, working on diaper covers to put in the shop.

Lots of love!

Have a Wonderful Sunday!

It's a rainy Sunday morning here in Southeast Kansas, but it's cool temperature wise.  I love it!

I am staying home today with middle child (long story), but the rest of the family is buzzing around preparing for church.

I'm preparing for a good week ahead.  Monday I pick up my first pair of bi-focals.  Yes, I've hit the age of needing them.  I have made it to adulthood!! (grins)  Put those with my increasing white hairs, and I may actually not get carded for looking under 40 when I buy glue or spray paint.  Tuesday the oldest of the kids turns 18.  He's my stepson, but I've raised him for 13 years.  The first day of fall is Monday (yay!), and then our city's Fall Festival is this coming Saturday, with various activities through out the week.

This last Friday, it was a bit of a sad day.  Not bad, but still a little sad.  My biological son (17) has had special ed services since he was 3 years old.  Friday was our last IEP meeting.  He graduates this year, then moves on to day and residential services with a local agency that works with adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.  I've known for a long time this was coming, so it's not a surprise.  It's the finality of this season of life and the beginning of a new season, that my boy is almost done with school and moving on to adulthood.  He will always need supports, I will be his legal guardian for the rest of my life or until I can't do it anymore (then moves on to his dad).  This is a good season for him, he's ready to move on from school, start a job (with supports), earn money for the things he really wants, etc.

This weekend I finished up my new website, and started sewing on things to add in.  I'm so excited, I can't wait to get items in and formally launch it.  I absolutely love the floral design backgrounds and the feminine look of it.  I've been working on my hand stitching and applique skills in order to add pretty extras to the items I make, and working at machine applique skills as well.  The whole concept for the site is to make available feminine attire at affordable prices, even gift cards available.  In my "to make" bucket, I have out plus sized jeans to make into skirts too...I am doing all sizes from newborn to plus.  I'm so excited!!  I can't wait to show you!!

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!  If you are able, head out to your local church and fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Have a great day!

A Beautiful Day In The Lord!

It is a cooler today than it has been, and I'm grateful.  I'm absolutely ready for fall, cooler weather, changing leaves, open windows and cool breezes, etc.  It's been a rainy day, and for most that is a dreary, "blah" type day.

It's a beautiful day in the Lord regardless!  No matter how bad it looks outside, no matter how much joint pain kicks up, it's a beautiful day.

I've spent the day with the kids, as well as working on baby items for my shop.  Today it is baby skirts in newborn sizes, using little 5" squares in coordinated colors.

I have several diaper covers in sizes small to large cut and ready to sew up too, in all different colors and prints.  I'll be adding these to the shop as soon as I get them sewn up.

I've been working on a stand alone shop away from Etsy, at  www.the-alabaster-box-attire.square.site.  At some point I'll probably give it a custom domain, but so far I'm playing with it and getting items sewn to add in before doing much.  It's through Square, which is a credit/debit card/Point of Sale/etc processor.  This has had the most..."right"...feel, no pressure, no pushing to hurry up, nothing forced.  It feels like I'm where I should be.  I've been a little concerned since reading where Garlands of Grace (a headcovering shop on Etsy and a stand alone shop) was blocked on Etsy for their biblical stance.  As a Bible believing Christian, I wonder how much longer those of us who also stand on Bible beliefs will be allowed on Etsy.  We are being removed from other sites already as it is.  But, God is bigger and will take care of His own, right?

I hope you have a great Saturday, and I'll be seeing you again soon!
